Health & Safety
The Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes provides Health and Safety Programs and topics of interest to families, child care providers and those individuals in our community that are interested in health care topics.
These programs are made possible through the services of a Health Care Consultant, who is a trained medical professional. The Health Care Consultant:
- Helps Child Care providers develop Health Care Plans
- Provides information to new child care providers
- Provides one-on-one assistance to child care providers with health and safety needs
- Provides health and safety trainings to improve the provider’s health and safety knowledge. Trainings are designated to help day care providers to foster and maintain healthy and safe environments for the children in their care.
- Presents health and safety topics of interest, such as information about Asthma, Epilepsy, Ear Aches, Influenza, When is It a Cold or the Flu, and Lice to the community.
Health and Safety Grants are offered to Family or Group child care operations to assist child care providers with either setting up their new day care business or providing a helping hand once the child care operation has been in business for a while.
Start-Up Grants are offered to new child care providers before they start their child care business. This grant helps prospective providers obtain needed materials, educational supplies, and equipment. The grant may also be used to help off-set the cost of Health and Safety Training, which each provider must complete to meet New York State regulations before they can be licensed and registered.
Health and Safety Existing Grants are provided to existing child care providers to help acquire materials or needed equipment to maintain their day care business and to assist child care providers meet regulatory standards. Health and Safety Existing Grants are available for licensed registered providers and Legally Exempt providers.
Health and Safety for Legally Exempt Providers
Legally Exempt Providers may attend any Health and Safety training held at the Child Care Council and may also apply for Health and Safety Existing Grants to help them maintain their day care operations. The Council will provide, if requested, one-on-one health and safety technical assistance to Legally Exempt Providers and additional training options to improve their day care operation. Legally Exempt providers are eligible to apply to their County for the enhanced rate should they obtain 10 hours of training through the Child Care Council.
