The History of the Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes
The Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes, Inc. began its history at 321 East Williams Street in Waterloo, New York in the mid 1980’s. In 1995, the agency grew to include Cayuga County. In 1989, the Council installed its first Board of Directors and in 1989 was incorporated as a non-profit 501 C-3 organization with a vision to address and provide quality affordable, available and accessible child care in both Cayuga and Seneca Counties. In 2006, the Child Care Council received certification for New York State Best Practices. This certification acknowledges that the Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes has demonstrated competence in the field of Child Care Resource and Referral in New York State.
The Council has increased its programs over the years and currently offers educational instruction and informational programs for licensed, registered and legally exempt child care providers and interested community members. The Council also has been able to offer health and safety programs, grants assistance and information since 2003 and has been able to assist child care providers with nutritional information and assistance. The Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes also has available a Child Care Subsidy Program to assist families in need of child care with financial assistance. The Council has had several office locations over the years. In 2007, the agency moved to its current locations at 202 Grant Avenue in Auburn, New York and at 86 Fall Street in Seneca Falls, New York.
